BUWENGE town council has developed a physical plan to guide the town’s development for the period 2007 to 2017.

The plan, which cost sh12m was approved at a council meeting chaired recently. It will assist in turning Buwenge into an organised urban area.

Chairing the meting, speaker Brian Babalanda Babalanda said: “Buwenge is an urban centre which should be developed following an approved plan. Since Jinja municipality is striving to get city status, the district headquarters could be brought here.”

“Before construction of any building, the owner must seek approval and guidance from the town council technical personnel. All construction work must be done in line with this plan,” Fred Waiswa, the district physical planner told the councillors.

He called on residents to respect and follow the structural plan, whose development they participated in.

Buwenge mayor Stephen Ngobi Mwesigye, commended the councillors for approving the plan, saying it was a step in the right direction. He urged village leaders to sensitise locals on its importance to avoid encroaching on road reserves.
