MAKERERE University students hailing from Mukono have launched a campaign to improve health and sanitation in their district.
The campaign dubbed ‘Get involved, keep Mukono clean’ will see Mukono town cleaned during the second week of every month.

Armed with brooms, rakes, hoes, wheel barrows and slashers, over 50 students swept Mukono Taxi Park, the streets and Kame-valley Market.

While launching the campaign recently, Johnson Muyanja, the Makerere University Mukono District Students’ Association patron, said: “We are concerned that much as Mukono town is one of the cleanest towns, there is still a lot to do if high sanitation standards are to be upheld.”

Muyanja said they would take the campaign to schools and homes and urged residents to emulate the association. “If it had not been for the rains, we would have cleaned at least 20 homes,” he said.

Steven Mutyaba, the association chairman, said they wanted to teach residents the importance of sanitation.
