AN independent commission should be established to conduct public hearings and facilitate forgiveness between perpetrators of the LRA war and their victims, a report has stated.

AN independent commission should be established to conduct public hearings and facilitate forgiveness between perpetrators of the LRA war and their victims, a report has stated.

Raymond Baguma reports that the report was conducted by civil society organisations in Lango, Teso, Acholi and West Nile sub-regions.

It was launched last week by the state minister for foreign affairs, Henry Okello-Oryem, at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala.

Sambey Logira, the vice chairperson of Civil Society Organisations for Peace in Northern Uganda said the report was a reflection of the views of the victims on the insurgency.

“The people who participated in crime should be forgiven but on condition that they publicly acknowledge and ask for forgiveness,” reads the report.
