Oyet, Senyanja beaten in Futures tournament

TWO Ugandan were beaten in the opening round of the ITF Men’s Futures tennis Circuit at Lugogo yesterday. Charles Senyanja, who got a wild card, was the first to go after a 6-0 6-0 defeat against Britain’s Benjamin George Levi in 55 minutes.

TWO Ugandan were beaten in the opening round of the ITF Men’s Futures tennis Circuit at Lugogo yesterday. Charles Senyanja, who got a wild card, was the first to go after a 6-0 6-0 defeat against Britain’s Benjamin George Levi in 55 minutes.

Levi launched a series of baseline shots to put his Ugandan rival on the receiving end.

Senyanja however will receive $175 (sh0.295m) for his appearance but no ranking points.

Seed two Gabriel Moraru from Romania sent another Uganda and a wild card entry John Oyet packing 6-0, 6-0 in a one-sided affair on court two. Oyet also got sh0.295m but no points.

Uganda’s hope in the singles lies in Herbert Buyinza who faces seed four Victor Leonte of Romania today.

The home boys also have a chance in the doubles where Uganda is drawn against Ireland.

The top seed Matwe Middelkoop from the Netherlands, who won singles title in the Rwanda leg, starts his campaign today.
