THE Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) yesterday held a photo exhibition at Kololo Airstrip, protesting what they termed as harassment of the opposition by the Government.

Addressing a press conference, FDC leader Kizza Besigye said: “We are exposing the inhuman acts of the NRM Government.”

He slammed the Commonwealth Secretariat for supporting Uganda’s bid to host CHOGM, despite the country’s record of human rights abuses.

The exhibition showed the arrest and detention of Besigye in the run-up to the 2006 presidential elections.

While he was acquitted on rape charges, he is still on trial for treason for his alleged links with the People’s Redemption Army (PRA), operating from eastern Congo, and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

Besigye’s campaign manager, Opoka James, joined the LRA shortly after the 2001 elections and was later killed by LRA leader Joseph Kony.

Some photos show a handcuffed Besigye during the rape trial. Others show an incident in which a man killed two FDC supporters in Mengo during the 2006 election campaign. The man was arrested and charged.

On display are also pictures of the “Black Mamba” incident, when gunmen entered the High Court premises to re-arrest PRA suspects who had been granted bail.
