Govt takes over more roads
- KAMPALA
The Central Government has taken over the management of another 9,500kms of roads from the local government. This brings to 20,000kms, the stretch of roads under government jurisdiction, an official has said. The Uganda National Roads Authority spokesperson, Dan Alinange, said sh100b was needed to maintain the new roads. Alinange said the policy would be implemented in the next financial year. He explained that the move followed failure by the local governments to fulfil their targets and due to corruption. He said all districts would be connected to the national road network.

Police start rights training
- MASAKA
The Police force is training its officers on human rights. Trainers led by the head of training, John Kamya, last week conducted a five-day course for senior officers in the districts of Rakai, Sembabule, Lyantonde and Kalangala in Masaka town. One of the facilitators, who is also the officer in charge of Kyambogo Police station, Simeo Nsubuga, said there had been a decline in the behaviour of some officers. “We have had cases of officers who are involved in human rights abuses. They were arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
