RELIGIOUS leaders should encourage their followers to work hard to improve their standards of living instead of spending all their time preaching the gospel.

President Yoweri Museveni made the appeal in a message read by Kibaale Woman MP Juliet Kabonesa during celebrations to mark the 79th birthday of O’wobusobozi Bisaka. Bisaka is the leader of The Faith of Unity sect.

The celebrations took place at Kampyemi, Muhooro sub-county in Kibaale district recently. Museveni hailed Bisaka for bringing about harmony in the communities.

“The spirit of unity and the wisdom with which you lead is exemplary in this era when there is a host of religious sects some of which derail people from the truth and cause the loss of lives,” the message read.

Museveni gave Bisaka a gift of sh5m.
Citing the sodomy saga involving pastors, Bisaka urged Ugandans to be careful when joining new religions.

Bisaka also condemned homosexuality, saying it can lead to the extinction of the human race because people cannot produce children when they are in same-sex relationships.

He commended the Government for promoting freedom of worship.
