ATHLETES yet to hit the mark for the national track and field championship have only this Saturday to qualify during the last regional trials across the country.

The Uganda Athletics Federation, in a bid to increase the appeal and competition at the national track and field trials, decided to set qualifying standards for the national championships. The event is due July 24-25 at Namboole.

The fourth Western region trials in Rukungiri, second Northern regional trials in Gulu and first central regional trials at Kyambogo will mark the last of the MTN sponsored six regional events to help athletes hit the different qualifying marks to the national championships.

“All the different regions have their own strong points and that is what we are looking for by organising regional championships in different places,” said UAF secretary Beatrice Ayikoru yesterday.

The national championships will provide the last chance for local athletes to qualify for the World championships.
