SIX members of the Democratic Party (DP) have petitioned the High Court seeking an injunction stopping the party from recognising Matthias Nsubuga as the secretary general until their main suit is heard.

There is a pending application in the High Court challenging the election of Nsubuga.

Peter Ochieng, Gerald Kobwemi, John Tusiime, Paul Luyombya, Hussein Lubega and Noelina Namugenyi are also seeking orders restraining Nsubuga from convening the national council and national executive meetings.

Through Sewankambo, Mubiru and Company Advocates, they want the party president and the national executive committee council barred from convening and holding the national council meeting or delegate’s conference.

They argue that they will suffer substantial loss if the orders are not granted.

They also claim that the national council meeting of of August 2008 contravened the party constitution.

They noted that party president Ssebaana Kizito ignored the party chairman when convening the meeting. They also contend that Ssebaana held the meeting without informing the members and that the meeting was attended by un authorised persons.
