UGANDAN women Andrina Namata and Mercy Tabitha walked away with Rwanda Francs 40,000 (sh140,000) after they finished fourth at the MTN international beach volleyball championship at the shores of Lake Kivu on Sunday.

But the money bracket at the event again eluded Uganda men represented by Johnson Kawenyera and Ambrose Okello who fell to Rwanda’s Abouba Nsengiyumva and Abdul Uwimana in the quarterfinals stage.

Ugandan top seeds Namata and Tabitha were unbeaten until Rwandan finalists Yvette Igihozo and Denyse Mutatsimpundu ejected them in straight sets at the semifinal stage.

“The Namatas performance was great in spite of stopping at semifinal," said national coach Sam Meya.

Rwandan women Emilienne Uwineza and Jeanette Niyigena beat their fellow country mates Igihozo and Mutatsimpundu 2-0 to emerge champions.

Flavia Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwonetuma overcame Vicent Dusabimana and Julle Ntahobatuye to take the men’s trophy.

Winning teams received Rwanda Francs 180,000 (sh630,000) top prize. Teams from DR Congo also participated in the two-day event.
