Disabled women urged
WAKISO-Women with disabilities have been told to focus more on critical issues that concern their lives rather than lobbying for funds. Addressing women with disabilities on Friday, the country director of Heifer International Uganda, Patrick Nalere, said more attention was needed in the field of livelihood. “I know what has been happening with the disabled but we need to refocus. A lot of advocacy has been done but we need to look at critical areas of livelihood,” Nalere said. He called on PWDs to think in terms of income-generating progemmes that will benefit them and their families. New board members were sworn in at the function.

Herdsman kills lover, self
NAKASEKE-The Police in Nakaseke are investigating a Saturday incident in which a herdsman in Kapeeka sub-county hacked his girlfriend to death and later hanged himself, leaving behind a handwritten note in which he accused the girlfriend of infidelity. The incident took place inside the herdsman’s house at Kifampa village. Nakaseke district CID chief Paul Kasangaki identified the deceased woman as Resty Nabanoba, a resident of Manywa village in Kapeeka and the dead man as Peter Mwanje. Kasangaki said the woman’s body was lying in a pool of blood with cuts on it, while that of the man was hanging on a rope. Kasangaki said the woman had gone to visit her lover.

Chaos over Busuulwa bail
KAMPALA-Rival groups of vendors from the Nakivubo Park Yard market on Thursday clashed at the Buganda Road Court after their chairman, Godfrey Busuulwa and his co-accused, Mohammed Musisi, Jose Lukwago, and Jingo Muhammad, were granted bail. The four men allegedly embezzled sh83m which was meant to re-build the market that got burnt in March this year. The clash started immediately after Grade One Magistrate Godfrey Sayekwo granted them bail. However, Busuulwa and his co-accused, who later met the bail terms, were returned to Luzira Prison to allow court ascertain the authenticity of the land titles, which they presented as surety, with the lands ministry. The trial begins on September 8.
