DO you want your business to succeed? Then your people-management skills is your answer. Managing anything is simply directing or controlling the use of that thing. In a business environment, managing would also entail making the most effective use of your resources; from money, machines to people.

So how does one manage their resources effectively?
For a machine, it is obvious that using it for its intended purpose and operating it in accordance with its operating manual is a starting point. However, it is a different story for people. People have a brain capable of deciding what they should do, when and how they should do it, and then actually doing it. This means that managing people is more about maintaining their natural capabilities than ‘operating’ them as is the case with machines.

Therefore, the primary goal of managing people is to maintain them at a high level performance and also enhance their natural capabilities.

As an employer, therefore, it becomes your responsibility to look for staff that is skilled, progressive in life and are passionate about their work. This reminds me of the joke that some employees love their company name much more than their own surnames. Thus, when introducing themselves they append their company name to their own and make sure that everyone else has heard it.

If you have such employees, as a leader you should pat your back for a job well done. That is, you have managed to make advocates and ambassadors for your business, wherever they go.

The best way for any business is to have employees whose morale is high and are excited to work for you “When you care for your employees, they will care for your customers, who will in return buy more of your products”… and that will bring more money to your bank account.
