A 23-year-old man yesterday stabbed his girlfriend and later took his life in the lobby of the eighth floor at Workers House in Kampala.

The Police said Simon Baker Kirenzi used a dagger to cut Phiona Mutumba, wounding her palms and neck before turning it on his neck.

According to his colleagues, Kirenzi was having a relationship with Mutumba, but they recently had a misunderstanding.

Kirenzi was a claims officer at Phoenix of Uganda Assurance Company on the eighth floor the building. Mutumba, is a student of Makerere University Business School and doing her internship at the Local Government Finance Commission on the 10th floor.

Workers at the Local Government Finance Commission said Kirenzi went to their office at around 11:00am and told Mutumba that he wanted to show her some documents.

“But a few minutes after the two had descended the stairs, we had an alarm. On reaching the corridor, we found Kirenzi lying in a pool of blood with a knife next to him, while Mutumba was standing with injuries,” a witness said.

Officials from Bageine and Company, the managers of the complex, immediately called the Police, who took charge of the scene.

Mutumba was admitted at Mulago, while Kirenzi’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, central Police station chief Anatoli Muleterwa said.
