UGANDAN referees who failed the FIFA tests at Namboole on Tuesday have travelled to Nairobi, Kenya and Seychelles to have another go at the Cooper tests, writes Norman Katende.

Margaret Kubingi, Khalifan Kanakulya and Ronnie Kalema arrived in Kenya yesterday ahead of today’s test while Fred Mufta and Brian Nsubuga are headed for Seychelles for the Sunday tests.

“We have availed them with the necessary documentation. I am sure they will pass this time” said referees committee secretary Yusuf Kamulegeya.

Kubingi failed to post below 6.6 seconds in the 40 metre dash, an event male referees performed well in. They however failed the 10 one-lap run-walk race – where one runs 150m and walks 50m.

South African Henriks Carlos and Ephraim Muzengo of Malawi, the FIFA fitness experts who conducted the tests, will also conduct similar tests in Kenya and Seychelles.

“These officials still have time to be included on the FIFA list for the 2010 season. We have four positions for the centre referees and six for assistants in the men’s category. All women participants are assured of a FIFA badge," explained Kamulegeya.

Another casualty, Asha Sonko, has opted not to give the exercise another chance. Leading match officials Mohammed Ssegonga, Ali Kalyango, Dennis Batte and assistants Samuel Kayondo, Yahaya Kitti, Hussein Bugembe, Rehema Kizito, Diana Mukasa and Irene Namubiru passed their drills.
