NAME: Laureen Ampurire

Public Relations Officer, Children’s Eye, a children’s magazine

Student of Logistics and Procurement, Kyambogo University.

Very beautiful, intelligent and employed, but single! Why?
At 20, I feel too young to date. Besides, Ugandan men are just too impatient. If you tell him abstinence before marriage, he takes off! I am very assertive and don’t take crap from them.

How about Sam Njuba’s son, the lecturer?
He is just a friend I have known since 2007. When I bump into him, I say ‘hi’ but that’s all.

And Edwin Musiime of UBC? He got you a job!
Edwin? We have never had a thing! He never had anything to do with my work at UBC. He was out of the country at the time.

So, who is your Mr Right?
I want an ambitious man. I hate men who think only about what they’ll eat today. A person who doesn’t try to change me. My guy should also be quiet and reserved, because I am a chatterbox and we can’t both be talkative. Education matters too. A guy who is not educated is hard to deal with. He wouldn’t understand such things as a bad day at work, or a late meeting with the boss.

Any problems with your male fans?
Oh, it’s horrible! But I always try to smile through it. I am lucky my phone number is protected. The numbers that we avail to viewers are those of my producer.

Brains and beauty: Your vote
Brains! Goodness! Who cares about beauty? Brains will take you anywhere in this world. Beauty will get you to the richest man in town who will treat you like a bimbo and a brainless one at that. I hate it when people judge us by looks.
