THE Police in Mbale on Tuesday exhumed the body of a woman suspected to have been murdered by her husband.

Rehema Nandudu was found buried at her marital home in Bukhato village, Bunghoko sub-county.

Abdul Kaweka, a neighbour said Nandudu and her husband, Stephen Opicho, had been living peacefully but they did not allow visitors into their compound.

He said residents became suspicious after Nandudu and her four children disappeared from their home mysteriously.

“The last time we called Opicho’s phone, he told us he was in Busia. When we called the second time, his phone was off,” Kaweka said.

The eastern regional Police spokesman,
Iddi Sssenkumbi, said the matter was being investigated. “We suspect that the husband was behind the murder,” Ssenkumbi said adding that some people could have helped Opicho to dig the grave in which she was buried.

He added that the initial examination show that the body had multiple injuries on the head. He also said no one had been arrested yet.
