THE roads in the Kisenyi slum area in Kampala are to be upgraded and tarmacked within the next four months.
The project, funded by Kampala City Council, is intended to improve the slum dwellers’ lives and provide easy access to the Ovino Market Complex in the area.

Engineer Rajab Kisekka, the technical director of Abubaker Technical Services, recently said they have started with repairing the drains.

“When the roads are tarmacked, people’s lives will change and property rates will increase. With a good road network, big property investors may want to acquire plots in the area, which will bring about a boom,” Kisekka explained.

Mariam Kasigwa, the LC2 chairperson of Kisenyi, urged the residents to maintain the roads and not throw their waste in the drainage channels.

“It is difficult to promote business in the area when the roads are impassable,” she noted.

Other roads around Kisenyi that are to be repaired include Ring Road, Mengo Hill and Kafumbe Mukasa roads.
