KANUNGU-Mustafa Batayenda, a resident who was attacked by an elephant last month, is to be discharged from Mulago hospital. He has successfully undergone two major surgeries. He will return to the hospital three months after discharge to undergo plastic surgery. The nurse in charge said he was being kept in hospital until full recovery.

BUSHENYI-People should to embrace Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations to fight poverty. The Kyamuhunga Peoples Cooperative and Savings board chairperson, Yorokamu Batuna, said collective action would boost people’s standards of living. Batuna was sensitising residents of Rutokye trading centre on the importance of saving groups. He said it was easier to obtain loans from them than from commercial banks.

Swine flu scare affects students
BUSHENYI-The swine flu outbreak in schools in Bushenyi has distablised school programmes. The district education officer, Norman Lukum, said the outbreak affected the candidate classes, who suspended debates, discussions and seminars due to fear of contracting the disease. The candidates begin exams later this month.
