THE Police in Jinja and Kamuli are holding two head teachers over misusing funds meant to register Senior Four candidates.

Richard Sonko, who heads Nile View, a private secondary school in Buwenda village in Jinja, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after invigilators blocked 10 students from entering the examination rooms because their names were not on the candidates’ register.

The south-eastern regional Police spokesman, Samson Lubega, said Sonko collected sh110,000 from 18 Senior Four students, but only registered eight of them at a neighbouring school since his did not have an examination centre.

Bupadhengo Secondary, School, however, rejected the other 10 candidates due to poor performance.
Sonko said he used part of the money to pay rent for his school premises, adding that he plans to refund the money.

In Kamuli, Charles Basalirwa, who heads Modern Preparatory Vocational Secondary School, was on Monday arrested for failure to register Senior Four candidates, much as they had submitted the money to the school.
The number of students affected was not established.

In a related case, 15 of the 58 students at Crane Comprehensive Secondary School in Lira have also missed their O’level examinations because their names were not on the register.

Denis Oola, the district Police crime chief, said Rolex Angole, the head teacher, is on the run.
