THE Hima Makerere 10s rugby tournament due November 7-8 has been moved from Makerere University to Kyadondo Rugby Club, reports Johnson Were.

This was announced by Hima Impis chairman Dan Obote in a press briefing where Shell Uganda announced a sh5m sponsorship to the event.

“The Makerere ground is still under construction and will not be ready in time for the event. That is why we have moved to Kyadondo,” Obote said.

The oil company has committed sh5m, making them the fifth sponsor to support this year’s edition.

“We have a tradition of supporting sports for the young talent to benefit. That is why we are coming up with this offer for the Hima 10s’ tournament," Shell managing director Ivan Kyayonka said at the briefing yesterday.

Kyayonka added that Shell will continue supporting sports as away of nation building and as a social corporate responsibility.

Hima cement coordinator Cerinah Zalwango applauded the offer and thanked Shell and other sponsors for the timely support to make the tournament a success.

“Our vision is to make Hima 10s the biggest tournament in the region and it’s our pleasure to have Shell on board as our budget grows year by year,” Zalwango stated.

Mwamba, Strathmoree, Mean Machine, Nakuru and Nondescript from Kenya and Silverbacks of Rwanda have confirmed participation.

Uganda’s MTN Heathens, who beat Kenya’s Mwamba 12-5 in the final last year, are the defending champions.

Meanwhile, there will be a rugby clinic for the sports media body USPA members Friday at Kyadondo at 2:30pm and there after play a touch rugby game against Impis side at 5pm.
