THE leaders and communities of Amuru and Nebbi districts recently held a meeting to resolve a longtime border dispute.

The ceremony, which was marked with traditional dances symbolising reconciliation (mato-oput), came with a call on the Alur, who were displaced by the LRA, to return to their land in Amuru district.

“We are tired of conflicts. Let’s not be like Joseph Kony who claims to be fighting in the name of God’s 10 Commandments, yet is so satanic. Let’s use this period to strengthen the relationship between the Alur and Acholi,” said Amuru district chairman Anthony Atube Omach.

The reconciliation meeting was organised by Caritas, a local NGO, at Panyango sub-county offices in Nebbi district.

The leaders encouraged the youth from the two communities to intermarry in a bid to strengthen their relationship.

The group, which was headed by the district chairpersons and resident district commissioners, urged the Alur to observe and respect the Nile as the boundary of Nebbi and Amuru districts as indicated in the Constitution of Uganda.
