FIREWORKS Advertising is today hosting an art exhibition to promote and create awareness of local art in Uganda.

“Picture the top 1,000 firms in Uganda buying 10 pieces each. If an average painting is worth sh500,000, the 1,000 firms are worth sh5b for the art market,” Caleb Owino, the managing director, said.

The exhibition at the firm’s premises in Kololo, Kampala is intended to help local artists to penetrate the corporate market.

“A lot of offices nowadays are decorated with pictures of international scenery and architecture yet there are many good paintings by Ugandan artists,” Ronnex Ahimbisibwe, one of the painters, said.

The fair is part of the advertising company’s project to give back to the community.

It will be an annual event.

“As a creative agency, art is our core business and what better way to give back than to do something where we could make a profound impact?’’ Owino said.

“It is not enough to have good art if nobody knows about it,”he added.
