THE fifth edition of the Shell U-16 youth football tournament has kicked off country-wide with the preliminaries, according to organisers, Friends of Football (FOF).

FOF administrative secretary Davis Katabira explained that the regional teams will be picked from the teams that are playing now.

“The preliminaries should end on January 20 after which they will play the proper Shell Champions league,” Katabira added.

This year’s football activities on the FOF calendar also include the City Tyres U-14 youth tournament that will be held later this year at a yet to be decided venue.

West Nile region (Arua, Koboko, Yumbe and Adjumani), on indefinite suspension for gross indiscipline at last year’s U-14 tournament in Gulu, has written an apology together with Gulu, who were not punished. However the organisers are yet to review their stance.

Kitgum district has also come on board and will take part in the activities on the FOF soccer calendar this year.
