FIVE members of a discussion group have helped raise the number of first grades in Luweero district. Paul Oryem, Jeff Jjombwe, Angella Namakula, Cynthia Kinyera and Yvonne Nabende each scored aggregate five in last year’s PLE exams, ranking among Luweero’s top performers.

Canon Edward Nsamba, the headmaster of Wobulenzi Parents’ School, where the five sat for their examinations, said they were in the same discussion group.

“Those pupils were hardworking. They would read and hold discussions without being told to do so,” he said.

Nsamba said the school had a total of 125 candidates and 114 of them passed in the first grade and the rest in Grade Two.

He attributed the good performance to ‘teamwork’ between the teachers and the parents. The teachers, he said, were dedicated to their work, while the parents used to meet their obligations in time.

Luweero district got 500 first grades. A total of 114 schools out of the 129 which presented candidates, failed to raise any first grade.
