THE Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party will win the 2011 presidential elections and restore the country’s socio-economic development, party president Miria Obote has said.

“We shall also ensure that all the elections at the grass root from LC1 to LC5 are won by the UPC flag bearers in order to make it easy to implement our development programmes.”

Miria said high on the party’s agenda for the north was the tarmacking of the Lira-Kitgum and Gulu-Kitgum roads and rehabilitating the Aswa Bridge on the Gulu-Kitgum road.

The remarks were contained Miria’s speech read by Loum Garimoi, the UPC chairman for Kitgum district during the last funeral rites of the late Erukano Olwedo, the former party chairman for Kitgum South during the Obote I regime. This was at Atanga sub-county in Pader district last week.

The UPC president urged the Acholi to support the party that demarcated the present Acholi land boundary which has fertile soils.

In an apparent reference to the current controversy over the proposed land amendment Bill, Miria said her party would ensure nobody grabs land in Acholi. She added that the UPC was a mass party with nationwide appeal.
