TALL, agile, and quick, Mateus ‘Manucho’ Goncalves struck twice as Senegal’s Teranga Lions were slaughtered by the Black Antelopes of Angola last night. Manucho showed why Manchester United cannot wait to sign him by helping Angola rally to a decisive 3-1 win over Senegal in a Group D game.

Abdoulaye Faye had given Senegal the lead on 20 minutes, before a fine header and oportunistic strike from a goal-mouth melee by Manucho turned the game. Flavio sealed the win.

The result will be of concern to Ugandan coach Laszlo Csaba, who is preparing his side to face Angola, Benin and Niger in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. It will the duty of Ibrahim Sekagya, Timothy Batabaire and Andy Mwesigwa to contain Manuchi at Namboole in June.

+The Confederation of African Football confirmed Sunday it was taking seriously claims of attempted match-fixing at the African Nations Cup.

The opening week's play at the 2008 edition in Ghana has been overshadowed by the revelation that first Benin and then Namibia were sounded out to throw matches.

Benin's German-born coach Reinhard Fabisch first raised the alarm when he revealed he'd been approached by a man last Saturday claiming to represent a Singapore-based betting syndicate trying to ‘buy’ Benin to fix their opening Group B game with Mali.

Then it was the turn of Namibia, whose players reported a man had offered them 30,000 dollars each to lose their final Group A tie with Guinea on Monday. The team alerted their national football association president John Muinjo who in turn contacted CAF.

CAF official Soulemine Hubouba told AFP: “We are following this with great concern, and will have more to say on it either today or tomorrow.”
