Why is nobody bothered about Kyambogo?

IT was a joyous occasion in my home when one of the family members was admitted to Kyambogo university. As a parent who is keen on educating his child, I spared no efforts to fundraise for tuition, upkeep and accommodation.

IT was a joyous occasion in my home when one of the family members was admitted to Kyambogo university. As a parent who is keen on educating his child, I spared no efforts to fundraise for tuition, upkeep and accommodation.

However, it is with great bitterness and concern as I write now, because the university has been closed for a good two months! In the meantime, the students in the other universities will soon be breaking off for the holidays! Kyambogo opened for barely one week before it was closed. What makes it worse is that there seems to be very little concern by the authorities concerned!

The reason for the closure is because the lecturers need a salary raise. Why this matter has not been handled appropriately up to now puzzles me.

Are the parents and students, who are the main stakeholders of the institution being taken for granted? Even if Kyambogo re-opens, it would be a tall order for the students to be compensated for the lost time and money.
