Sh600m for water project

APAC-The Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF) has released sh614.4m for water projects in Apac and Oyam districts. Phillips Otim, the district technical officer, said sh154m would be used for the completion of 32 projects, while sh459m would be spent on drilling 31 boreholes. He urged the beneficiaries to get credible contractors to do the work. He told journalists last week that those who mismanage funds would be dealt with severely: “Before I am confronted for accountability, those who would have messed up with the funds will be the first to taste the bitterness of misappropriating money.”

Gulu varsity gets bus

GULU-ulu University has acquired a 67-seater Scania bus worth sh220m under the Stanbic Bank asset financing scheme. The bus was supplied by SKenya Motors. Phillip Cheruiyot, the sales manager, handed over the bus to deputy vice-chancellor Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng at the main campus last week. “We have given you a one year guarantee. We also trained two university drivers and gave them Scania certificates, which are recognised worldwide.” The bus has seatbelts, a TV set, DVD player and a speed governor. Okeng thanked Stanbic for helping the university acquire the bus. He said it would help transport medical students, who have been walking a long distance to Lacor Hospital for practicals.

ru to grade road
AMURU-he district is to regrade the Alero-Anaka road at sh330m. Three local contractors, Tim, Alcon and Panok construction companies were awarded the deal for fixing the road, which links Gulu and Amuru districts. The district vice-chairman, Patrick Okello Oryema, said project would boost trade and production in the region. He said the money had been earmarked for the grading of the Awer –Omer road, but was diverted when DANIDA and the Government took on the project.
