DP’s Bayiga sworn into Parliament

THE newly-elected Buikwe South MP, Dr. Michael Lulume Bayiga, has been sworn into Parliament.

THE newly-elected Buikwe South MP, Dr. Michael Lulume Bayiga, has been sworn into Parliament.
The DP supporter, who officially joined the House on Wednesday, boosts the thin opposition numbers in Parliament by one. Out of the 332 members, the ruling NRM has more than 200 legislators.
Bayiga trounced NRM’s Anthony Mukasa during a by-election on April 30.
The Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, welcomed Bayiga to the House on behalf of Government.
“We accept that you defeated us democratically. We are also democratic. I would like to point out that a strong multiparty system deepens democracy.â€
Nsibambi amused Bayiga’s supporters who jammed the strangers’ gallery when he said they were still finding out how he had won.
The leader of opposition in Parliament, Prof. Ogenga Latigo (FDC), congratulated Bayiga and his party. He commended the people of Buikwe for their choice.
Speaker Edward Ssekandi urged the new MP to serve all his people without discrimination.
