MS Arch Tech Consultants (U) Ltd has been selected to provide consultancy services for the extension of Kampala Central Division at a cost of sh50.9m.

This is contained in a notice signed by Wilberforce Turyamubona, the head of the Kampala City Council Procurement and Disposal Unit.

The central division has been holding its council meetings in Hotel Equatorial for lack of space for councillors.

However, critics claim the sh50.9m office block was expensive because the division was not doing more to prevent flooding at the St. Balikuddembe Market.

But some observers said the division has had problems with money management and would welcome the chance to save.

This has not been helped by the fact that it is in charge of the places and institutions that bring in most of the money in Kampala the observers urged.

These include the Old and New Taxi parks, assorted bus terminals, markets including St. Balikuddembe and Nakasero as well as the working premises.
