KABAROLE district authorities should enact a law stopping the sell and consumption of marijuana in the area.
“We cannot arrest the culprits because of the absence of a law,†the resident district commissioner, Kambarage Kakonge, told council members at the Mucwa chambers on Wednesday.
His remarks came after some councillors accused security agencies of not arresting people abusing drugs.
The drug is mainly grown in tea plantations.
The council also said it was disappointed with the Public Service Commission for not approving some members of the district service commission. This was the third time public service was rejecting the nominees.
Grace Nyakahuma was supposed to serve as chairman, while Kenneth Barungi as a member.
The district commission has not had a leader for a year and this has hindered the recruitment of staff.
Last year, public service refused to renew Mohammed Basajjabalaba’s contract. It also rejected his proposed successor Fr. Thaddeus Balinda.
The district chief, Michael Mugisa, said they would forward new nominees to the council then to public service.
