RESIDENTS of Lango sub-region are to benefit from a sh2.2b project that was launched by the First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, on Wednesday.

The project is aimed at poverty eradication, food security and nutrition and enabling widows, orphans and the vulnerable people to access land for production.

It is funded by the Uganda Women’s Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO) in conjunction with the organisation’s friends in the UK.

Mrs. Museveni, who is one of the UWESO founders, urged Ugandans to look out for ways of solving their problems instead of waiting for outsiders.

The First Lady said Lango would benefit immensely from the project given its fertile soils and the peace now prevailing in the region.

She hoped that Lango would become a food basket for neighbouring districts and the whole country, which would help in the eradication of household poverty.

Oyam North MP Ben Wacha (Independent) donated a Friesian cow to Mrs. Museveni in appreciation of her efforts to improve the welfare of orphans. The First Lady gave the cow to the project.

Mrs. Museveni urged Wacha to join the Movement to hasten the process of re-building the region.

Wacha, a former UPC politician, has signed a memorandum of understating with the FDC.

The event took place at Oyam district headquarters.
