COOKING is an activity most women enjoy. However, it is often made cumbersome because of lack of handy kitchen accessories.
Dan Baibhu, a chef at the Norwegian Embassy says: “Using the right kitchen tools will improve your cooking skills, eases your work in the kitchen and makes the cooking process enjoyable.”

Baibhu adds that having the right kitchen accessories allows you to focus more on the food which is the most important part of cooking.

Among many, the handy kitchen accessories you must have include: chopping board, a vegetable slicer/grater, a garlic mortar, bread bin and a blender.

A blender
Having a blender in your kitchen will help you prepare juices in just seconds. Blenders will cost about sh25,000. The cost depends on the brand and capacity of the blender.

A vegetable slicer
A vegetable slicer is a versatile tool for the kitchen. You can use it while making vegetable salads, peeling fruits and making decorations from fruits. To acquire a vegetable slicer, you will pay about sh60,000.

A grater
Every kitchen needs a grater. It costs as little as sh2,000. Though pocket friendly, such graters are small and do not have a variety of grates. For durable and bigger graters, you will part with about sh15,000. Graters are available in supermarkets around town.

A bread bin
For those who love bread, a storage facility like a bread bin will be ideal. It protects the bread from insects such as sugar cuddy. It is also the best store for the bread since bread is best kept at room temperature.

You can choose between metallic, plastic and wooden bread bins. The bins are available at Quality Supermarket in Old Kampala and at Game Stores Lugogo at pocket-friendly prices.

A chopping board
With a chopping board, you will make cutting meat and vegetables so much easier especially when you do not have anyone to hold the meat while you cut. You can get a wooden, plastic and ceramic board in any of the shops around you.

However, it is advisable to go with either the plastic or wooden because they are not easily damaged by the knife. Depending on the size of your pocket, you can get a board for as little as sh5,000 from supermarkets and shops around town dealing in kitchenware.

A garlic or ginger mortar
Acquiring a mortar will enable you to crush spices such as garlic, ginger and tomatoes in a flash. A mortar will cost you between sh8,000 to 15,000, depending on the size.
