MORRIS Ntege will be the first Ugandan golfer to feature at the World Junior Open in England, set
for July 14-16.

Teenage golfers from all world national associations are normally invited for the annual event. But it will be the first time that Uganda is represented at the showpiece.

The 16-year old Ntege, who has incredibly cut his handicap down to 7.3 in five years, will be accompanied by Uganda Golf Union (UGU) secretary Gad Musaasizi.

UGU president Eric Adriko said Uganda will endeavour to field both a boy and girl in the next edition.

“Ntege is a very promising player and even if he doesn’t win, we are mainly looking at capacity building. He will network with fellow youngsters from other countries and that kind of exposure is good for our young golfers,” Adriko stated.

Ntege is a product of the Uganda Golf Club youth development programme.

The teenager, whose parents Monica and Mark Ntege are seasoned golfers, nowadays competes with adults in tournaments.

Meanwhile, Adriko will be in England on July 15 to meet the Royal and Ancient director of golf development.
