HERITAGE Oil and Gas, the Canadian firm exploring oil in western Uganda, is to construct a school in Hoima. The Carl Nedft Memorial Primary School Buhuka is in honour of Carl George Nedft, the British oil worker, whom Congolese troops killed in a pre-dawn attack in August last year on Lake Albert.

On Friday, The Nedft family led by his wife Angela and children Beth, Yvea and Archie, laid the foundation stone, planted trees and shared meals with children and the local community.

Heritage’s seismic manager Julian Haywood said: “We shall respect Uganda and the wealth developed will go back to Ugandans because they have supported us in our activities.”

Bukenya Matovu, who represented the permanent secretary of the energy and mineral development ministry, commended Nedft’s contribution to the Ugandan economy.

He said the Government was talking to its Congolese counterparts to ensure nobody died again like Nedft.
