Members of the Lions Club should work to transform humanity and help the less fortunate, the third deputy premier, Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, has said.

By so doing, the club would be helping the Government fight poverty, he said.

Kivejinja, who is also the information minister, said 80% of the population lives in dire need and poverty.

He was recently speaking at the installation of four presidents of different Lions Clubs in district 411B at Cool Breeze Hotel Jinja.

He said the Government was working to reduce the poor households by 30% and ensure that each household earns at least sh20m annually.

“Since I am the national guidance minister, I will with the new presidents and guide them on how to run to the clubs to benefit the less fortunate,” Kivejinja said.

The presidents installed were Chacko Babu (Jinja), Lambert Drata (Njeru), H.S. Chandrasekhar (Kakira) and David Waiswa (Iganga).

Babu and Drata are serving another term, while Chandrasekhar replaced Salim Kalibusi and Waiswa replaced David Baligeya.

Babu pledged to work with Kivejinja’s ministry to support more needy people and hailed the Government for appreciating the services of the Lions Club.

The sub-treasurer of the district 411B, John Bosco Ntagere, who was the chief guest, performed the installation ceremony.

He asked the new presidents to recruit more members into their clubs.
