OPPOSITION leaders have called for a changing in the order of the government officials’ protocol, saying it was unfair.

The Department of Government Protocol in the foreign affairs ministry last week released a list of the most powerful officials in the country.

According to the list, the NRM vice-chairperson, Moses Kigongo, is the seventh most important dignitary in the country, taking precedence over the Prime Minister, the army commander, religious and traditional leaders and MPs.

Justice Forum party president Kibirige Mayanja and Conservative Party’s Ken Lukyamuzi yesterday challenged Kigongo’s supremacy over many other dignitaries.

They said the order of the protocol was likely to injure the operation of multiparty democracy in the country.

“How can the NRM vice- chairperson be among the powerful 34 dignitaries yet the leader of opposition, who is recognised in parliament, is left out?” Lukyamuzi asked.
