Unveiling the cash prizes yesterday, utl corporate brand manager Charlotte Kemigyisha said a sh2.5m cash prize awaits the overall winner from the four legs.

Sh0.25m will also be up for grabs for each of the four respective leg winners.
Kemigyisha told a press conference at Lugogo that the overall runner-up will earn sh1.5m and third team sh1m.

Tournament co-sponsors Vision Group will offer publicity in its print and electronic fronts.

“We have always backed rugby. We believe they are on the right course,” said Vision Group advertising manager Godfrey Mulengi.

G4S, a security firm, have offered to be in charge of security and gate collections. Other co-sponsors are UAP who will offer insurance cover, Crown Beverages and Uganda Breweries.

National rugby coach Yayiro Kasasa said 12 teams are expected. Night action that runs from 6 to 9.40pm is scheduled for Friday and the last leg on September 27.

Jinja’s Dam Waters ground and Makerere will host the second and third legs respectively. The final leg, also named the Kitaka Memorial, will, like the first matches, be at Lugogo.

“Our aim is to make rugby more open to the public,” explained Kemigyisha adding that the night will be spiced by music from Desire Luzinda and the Maisha Group.

Uganda Rugby Union (URU) secretary Paul Nyangabyaki said the national team will play against 11 other clubs in the tournament. “At the 7s circuit, we will be able to pick the best 12 players to form the national 7s team,” Nyangabyaki stated.

G4S Pirates, uganda telecom Kobs, Buffaloes, MTN Heathens, Rams, Entebbe Mongers, Cente Rhinos, Nile, Shepherds, Summer Kamps, Hima Impis and Uganda will be drawn into four pools.
