THE Nakaseke woman MP, Rose Namayanja seems to have discovered something good in Islam. Namayanja, a staunch Christian, has learnt to salute Muslims in the Islamic way. “Asalam Aleikum Walahatulirahi Wabarakatu!†she greeted Mubende MP Faridah Kasese to applause from the scribes and MPs at Parliament. Journalists wondered why Namayanja had embarked on mastering the faith. To this, she confessed: “By the time we reach the next elections, I want to be perfect in Islamic jargons so that Muslims can support me.†Good Luck honourable.
Kasaijja’s fears
INTERNAL affairs state minister Matia Kasaijja may be in charge of the Police, but he is afraid of them. While addressing the new police cadet recruits at the Police Training School Kabalye in Masindi on Tuesday, he said: “I am a minister, but when I am arrested I will not resist. I remember when Amin’s soldiers arrested me with President Museveni in the 1970s and ordered me to roll in the mud in Ntinda. My crime was wearing a tie. But when Hon. Lukwago was arrested in Wandegeya, he threw himself down, accusing the Police of harassing him. He forgot that the Police have a right to use reasonable force. That is why I can’t resist them.â€
Mabikke’s plans
THE Makindye East MP, Michael Mabikke recently amused Law Development Centre (LDC) students when he said he would stand for president because he has a number of army generals on his side. Mabike was referring to his course mates in the diploma class who include generals Moses Ali, Jim Muhwezi and Brig. Henry Tumukunde. Mabikke and the army officers are pursuing diplomas in Legal Practice at LDC.
Proud Ochora
THE Gulu resident district commissioner, retired Col. Walter Ochora is proud that he is a colonel. While addressing National Teachers College Unyama students undergoing a cadre course in Gulu, he said: “This cadre course should harden you. When we returned from Rwakitura after visiting President Museveni, we were ambushed, but because I am a hardened colonel, I refused to open the door to our vehicle. Hon Ogenga Latigo made noise, but I told him to cool down. Hon. Reagan Okumu, who has never acquired cadre training, was beaten serious kiboko. Just imagine, a whole me, a colonel with this big stomach being flogged by tiny men. I would not accept that.
