NATIONAL Council of Sports (NCS) yesterday said that Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) president Roger Ddungu is innocent of allegations against him.

Ten boxing clubs last month petitioned NCS asking Ddungu to resign after accusing him of tampering with the constitution.

The clubs accuse Ddungu of manipulating the constitution to push the executive committee’s term of office to four years from two and hiking the affiliation fees from sh20000 to sh0.5m.

After a meeting with the former normalisation committee headed by Dr Ntege Ssengendo, now UABF vice president administration, NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa said that changes in the constitution were made by the committee.

“We looked at various documents including minutes from meetings of the normalisation committee and found Ddungu innocent,” Aligawesa said yesterday.

The affiliation fees issue and extension of term of office were proposed by the normalisation committee and adopted by UABF.

Members of the committee James Bakama and David Kyambadde also attended the meeting. The normalisation committee was dissolved after Ddungu was elected in 2006.
