PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has urged soldiers to guard against leading reckless living.

Speaking at the passout of of a tank platoon commanders, Museveni said it was important that the soldiers appreciate the gift of life so as to avoid premature death due to careless living.

The officers completed the course at Kabamba Military Barracks in Mubende district.

Museveni told them to value the sacrifice the country has made to train them by returning the gesture by living responsibly.

He said it makes no sense to train people who would die shortly after becoming useful to the nation.
He congratulated the officers upon for their mastery in the art of handling tanks and marksmanship.

He reminded them that the weapons were good and promised to continue developing the force into a modern army.

Museveni told the residents, who attended the function, that the government was focussing on the Prosperity for All programme countrywide to stamp out poverty. He promised to return to the district to launch the programme.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima said enhancing the soldiers’ skills would be a continuous exercise in a bid to modernise the force.

Prior to this, the president had witnessed a live tank combat exercise during which the graduands displayed their skills in using the tank as a weapon.
