EDITOR—I would like an answer from the UPDF leadership. How can a professional personnel end his tour of duty or service in his line department? Traditionally, when one joins the army as a professional, one is supposed to be rotated or serve for a maximum of two years in a particular department related to his professional training.

For example, a doctor can serve in different divisions. Recently, professionals have been transferred to areas outside their expertise.

For example, a qualified accountant, who has earned professional qualifications like ACCA or CPA who has served in different line department for over five years finds himself transferred to do other duties without adequate training for it.

If this is not sorted out, doctors will be transferred to do engineering work and lawyers will do doctor’s work! If a professional has ended his tour of duty or service he should be given a chance to quit the army and serve elsewhere.
