UGANDA’S team to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India will start competition on Monday, with action in badminton, table tennis and athletics.

The Ugandan team of 15 arrived yesterday for the one-week games. According to the programme released by the organisers, the badminton duo of Daniel Mihigo, Herbert Ebayo and Phiona Sembogo will compete in the badminton singles.

Table tennis’ Zura Khaukha and Amina Namaganda will be compete in the women singles, while Eddy Omongole and Daniel Sekyanzi will compete in the men’s singles the same day. Ramadhan Akula, the overall team captain, will open the track competition. Milly Kaitesi (53kg) and Charles Ssekyaaya (62kg) will be lifting on Tuesday.

The youth games are a build up to the Commonwealth Games that India will host in 2010. The Ugandans are also using it as a build up to the 2012 Olympics.
