Nov 23, 2008

PAIN or discomfort in the breast is common. It is usually related to periods. For some, it is related to the family planning pill, injection, or pregnancy.

Ask the Doctor with Dr. Paul Semugoma

Dear Doctor,
I get on-and-off breast pain. At first I felt it near the periods but now it is prolonged. It is itching, pumping and not in one place. I feel no lumps.

Dear Sophie,
PAIN or discomfort in the breast is common. It is usually related to periods. For some, it is related to the family planning pill, injection, or pregnancy.

First consult a doctor. Common pain killer drugs like Panadol or Brufen can help.
Using a supporting bra (sports bra) also helps.

Other helpful things include losing weight, decreasing coffee intake, limiting salt in food, exercise and having a low fat diet.
