THE Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is to name smugglers, the public relations officer, Patrick Mukiibi, has revealed.

Mukiibi told a press conference in Kampala: “The authority has not been exposing people illegally bringing goods into the country.”

He said exposing the culprits would reduce the number of offenders.

Mukiibi explained that exposure would be done through newspapers, television and radios during the weekly press conferences.

He said the authority has already started.

Mukiibi said: “Goods destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo are cleared at entry points like Malaba. However, some businesspeople divert them and hide them in stores in Kampala.”

He warned the public against people who pose as employees of the body and con them of money.

Mukiibi said people should directly pay their taxes to the authority’s offices.
