Woman jailed <br>KAMPALA<br>Court has sentenced a woman to seven months in prison for helping eight detainees escape from Old Kampala Police cells. Doreen Namakula, 20, pleaded guilty to the charges at Mwanga II road court.

Court has sentenced a woman to seven months in prison for helping eight detainees escape from Old Kampala Police cells. Doreen Namakula, 20, pleaded guilty to the charges at Mwanga II road court. Prosecution told court that Namakula masterminded the escape on November 8, 2006. She broke the cell in which she was detained with other female inmates who escaped during the night. The guard had briefly left the cell premises when they escaped.

PRA appeal

Lawyers representing the 22 People’s Redemption Army (PRA) rebel suspects yesterday met the chairman of the General Court Martial over the continued prosecution of their clients. The four lawyers led by Wandera Ogalo, resolved to give the chairman, Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta, and the court’s judge advocate, Maj. Mwesigwa, a copy of the Constitutional Court decision on the jurisdiction of the military court on their clients, after Koreta said he did not have it. The constitutional Court earlier ruled that the General Court Martial did not have jurisdiction to try civilians on offences linked to firearms.

New toilets
IGANGA
The town has acquired its first ever public flush toilets constructed by Spencon Services Ltd. The three modern structures roofed with green sheets have caused excitement among the people. Fred Kalogo, a shoe vendor, said on tuesday that many people would have to be enlightened on how to flush the toilets. Siraji Katono, the mayor, said the toilets would be fully operational in June when water is connected.
