NO person, company or transport service provider has been awarded a contract to supply the 200 executive vehicles for the November Commonwealth heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Kagole Kivumbi, the spokesperson of the CHOGM national task force, yesterday clarified that the tendering process for the supply of 200 executive saloon vehicles had resumed and interested suppliers and transport service providers would soon be invited to bid.

He refuted media reports that the tender had been awarded to former health minister and Rujumbura MP Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi.

Kagole stated: “It is important to recall that the earlier advertised tender to supply various categories of vehicles was stopped in July 2006. This was done to allow further consultations on sourcing methods, quality, mix and other aspects like colour.”

He added that the task force had decided on all the issues and assured the public that all procurement for works, goods or services would be done in accordance with the Procurement Act and established guidelines.

Kagole also defended engaging Globe Cast to provide media services for CHOGM, arguing that Uganda has no capacity for such services.

Globe Cast provided media services for the CHOGM summits in Abuja in 2003 and in Malta in 2005.
