TELECOM firm Celtel has offered sh25m to Rotary organisations in Uganda. The money will help to organise a regional district conference to be attended by over 1,500 Rotarians.

Celtel’s donation was announced at Taibah College in Entebbe where the Rotary Club of Kampala North organised a charity walk on Saturday. It is part of the donations from various organisations.
The charity walk was meant to raise sh30m, which will be used by the club in its community-related activities.

Celtel boss Yesse Oenga, who flagged off the 15-kilometre walk, said: “I am honoured to be part of such a good cause. We have been familiar with the issue of social commitment for a long time.

“This is an extension of Celtel’s corporate commitment to making life better through support of the well being of the community in which we live.”
Oenga emphasised that they would continue supporting all Rotary-related activities in Uganda.

At the same function, Spencon, a construction company, pledged sh5m to the Rotary Club of Kampala North while Akright, a real estate developer, offered sh300,000.
