IBRAHIM Sekagya’s terrific performance with Argentine league leaders Arsenal has handed Laszlo Csaba a glimmer of hope ahead of the Nigeria trip.

Sekagya, who caused a public uproar for failure to turn up for Cranes away match against Niger in October last year, recently confirmed that he would be in Abuja for the decisive encounter against the Super Eagles.

Sekagya’s club Arsenal de Sarandi currently tops the 20-team league that boasts of big sides like River Plate and Boca Juniors in Argentina.

Arsenal has won all the four matches it has played this season with eleven goals against two. They are followed by San Lorenzo and Argentinos Juniors in second and third position respectively. They play River Plate on Sunday.

Csaba feels the centre half’s exciting form cannot have come at a better time as Cranes plot how to snuff out Nigeria’s star-studded attack that will include Obafemi Martins (Newcastle), Osaze Odemwingie (Lille) and Kanu Nwanko (Portsmouth).

“He is one player I am really counting on. We will definitely need a player of Sekagya’s calibre in Nigeria. For me he is the kind with the best experience in the team. I hope he doesn’t disappoint because we will need him,” Csaba stressed.

The Ugandan’s presence in a predominantly Argentine side has seen the leaders cement an excellent defensive record of just two goals conceded.

Uganda is battling for its first qualification for the finals of Africa’s premier soccer competition since 1978.

“I hope Arsenal release him earlier. We do not want to have the same old problems that stopped him from coming to Niger,” Csaba added.

Cranes engage Burundi in a friendly on March 18.

Meanwhile, Cranes and Kobs training sessions have been postponed until March 12.

“We are not in position to have all the players since the league is still on. So we have decided to put off everything,” Csaba added.
