SIR — We refer to your letter entitled “Umeme’s approach is not customer- friendly”. The complaint was about payment for Umeme services at Iganga Stanbic bank. We would like to clarify that Umeme closed down some of its offices as part of its overall strategy to render better service to our customers by encouraging them to make Umeme payments through a bank nearest to them.

Together with our service providers, in this case Stanbic Bank, we are working all the time to improve the provision of this facility. We would like to inform our customers that the duplicate pay-in slip authenticated and provided by the bank for any Umeme services, serves as the official Umeme receipt and is considered so by Umeme. A customer therefore is not required to travel to Jinja to collect yet another receipt.

Umeme provides payment facilities at the following banks nationwide as part of improved customer services: Citi, Crane, dfcu, Nile, Posta, Stanbic and Standard chartered.
